Yeah, ,but is he a Muslim?

Caveat. All of my friends on Facebook are Trump supporters. Consider this before sending them a friend request.  Like Elvis, I am thinking of leaving the building...while I can.

Teach your children to act Presidential.  Mock disabled people. Talk about size.  Encourage your children to call women they don't like "fat pig".  Make America great again.

I've read about the power of money.  So, those of you that have met Trump and cut some kind of deal for him to make you a zillionaire, I understand.   It's all the rest of his supporters that perplexes me.

Enrolled in a college course on how to become a Lobbyist and make a lot of money.  It's not that hard actually, you just have to first fool the people of your state to get elected to Congress and then wait two years.

Obama reportedly will announce Merrick Garland as US Supreme Court nominee

Merrick Garland
Judge Merrick Garland
Developing: President Obama will reportedly announce on Tuesday that he is nominating Judge Merrick Garland to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Garland, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, is considered a moderate, particularly on issues involving criminal justice and national security. Several publications are reporting on Garland’s expected nomination, including the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Associated Press, which cites confirmation from a White House official.
Garland is 63, which “is somewhat aged for a Supreme Court nominee,” according to the New York Times. He is a Harvard law graduate who was appointed to the D.C. Circuit in 1997. Heformerly worked at the U.S. Justice Department, where he supervised the prosecution of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. Before that, he was a partner at Arnold & Porter.
Garland has hired several clerks who went on to clerk for Supreme Court justices, the National Law Journal (sub. req.) reports. Those clerks worked for both conservative and liberal justices. Garland was himself a clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan.
Obama informed supporters in an email that he was fulfilling his constitutional duty by announcing the nomination on Tuesday. “I’m doing my job. I hope that our senators will do their jobs, and move quickly to consider my nominee,” he wrote.
Prior reports said Obama had narrowed his list of potential nominees to three appeals judges: Garland, Sri Srinivasan of the D.C. Circuit, and Paul Watford of the 9th Circuit.
According to the Times, the announcement on Tuesday was “expected to kick off a months-long political stalemate and become a searing issue on the campaign trail.”
Obama is making a nomination despite Republicans’ vow that they will not hold a confirmation hearing. Democrats hope that Republican senators who are vulnerable in elections will push for a vote.
The Republican refusal will be used by Democrats as an election issue, according to David Greenberg, a professor of journalism, history and media studies at Rutgers University. Democrats will promote the idea that “the Republican Party is the party of nothing,” Greenberg told the Washington Post.

Texas Police Officer Caught On Tape Allegedly Pepper Spraying Group of Bikers On Highway

Screen Shot 2016-03-15 at 7.08.30 AMThere is a bizarre story out of Fort Worth Texas where a driver videotaped a police officer spraying what appears to be pepper spray at a group of oncoming motorcyclists. The video below is slowed down to show the officer clearly spraying what looks like mace at the group as they drive by.

Lawmaker accused of firing 20 rounds into ex-wife's car gets 10 months

A Michigan state senator accused of pointing an AR-15 at his ex-wife during an argument last year and then firing 20 rounds at her Mercedes Benz as she fled has taken a plea and been sentenced to 10 months behind bars.
It hasn’t been determined by the court whether Sen. Virgil Smith, 36, will be required to give up his legislative seat as a condition of his guilty plea to malicious destruction of property worth more than $20,000, the Detroit News reports. His sentence in the felony case also includes five years of probation.
A felony firearm charge was dismissed, which Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said is unusual for her office. But in a written statement provided after an earlier hearing she said, after extensive review of Smith’s medical and psychiatric records, that extenuating circumstances justified the plea deal, .
They included a history of bipolar depression and a neurocognitive disorder caused by a traumatic brain injury in an auto accident less than two years ago. Smith also is under treatment for alcohol dependency, Worthy said. . “He’s being held accountable,” attorney Godfrey Dillard, who is representing Smith, told the newspaper. “His political career is destroyed.”

Justice Department warns local courts about illegal enforcement of fees and fines

The U.S. Justice Department is sending a “dear colleague letter” warning state and local courts about constitutional concerns regarding fees and fines imposed on poor defendants.
The letter (PDF) from the department’s Civil Rights Division and the Office for Access to Justice urges courts to review procedures regarding fines to make sure they comply with “due process, equal protection and sound public policy.” A press release links to the letter and describes a $2.5 million grant program to help agencies develop strategies that reduce unnecessary confinement of those who can’t pay fines and fees. The Washington Post and the New York Times have coverage.
Dear colleague letters have been used “to help push the boundaries of civil rights law,” according to the New York Times. Yet they are unusual. The last such letter, issued in 2010, advised judges they need to provide translators for people who can’t speak English.
The new letter refers to “illegal enforcement of fines and fees” in “certain jurisdictions,” including Ferguson, Missouri, in cases involving misdemeanors, quasi-criminal ordinance violations and civil infractions.
“Typically, courts do not sentence defendants to incarceration in these cases; monetary fines are the norm,” the letter said. “Yet the harm caused by unlawful practices in these jurisdictions can be profound. Individuals may confront escalating debt; face repeated, unnecessary incarceration for nonpayment despite posing no danger to the community; lose their jobs; and become trapped in cycles of poverty that can be nearly impossible to escape.”
The letter outlined “basic constitutional principles” regarding fee and fine enforcement. They include:
1) Courts shouldn’t incarcerate a person for nonpayment without first determining whether the person is indigent and whether the failure to pay is willful.
2) Courts must consider alternatives to incarceration for indigent defendants unable to pay. Alternatives could include requiring community service or classes, reducing the debt or extending the time for payment.
3) Courts must not condition access to a judicial hearing on the prepayment of fees and fines.
4) Courts shouldn’t use bail or bond practices that keep indigent defendants incarcerated because they can’t afford to pay for their release.

Merrick_GarlandPresident Barack Obama today surprised many by nominating the moderate Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Merrick Garland. Garland is unlikely to thrill liberals. He is fairly conservative on criminal cases and tends to favor government interests. Conservatives are not going to like his vote to move to reconsider the case that became the historic Heller decision that recognized the individual right to bear arms under the Second Amendment. However, Garland moves virtually everything off the table for the Republicans. He is as far right as a Democratic president could go.
BREAKING: Last night the Wall Street Journal reported that FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is moving toward approving Charter’s $90 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks.1
He still needs to put the deal to a vote — which means there’s time to influence the outcome IF you act fast.
If this merger goes through, it’s bad news for everybody. Charter is taking on massive debt to make this merger happen. It would cost the average Charter customer $1,142 just to pay down the new debt.2
This means higher prices for everyone: Charter’s expanded power would lead to huge price hikes on top of already steep rates — squeezing captive customers and forcing many offline. That’s the only way the cable giant can pay for this deal: by charging everyone more. A lot more. And these price increases would hit people in low-income communities and low-income people of color the hardest.
Wheeler thinks you should foot the bill for this deal while Charter gets even richer and Time Warner Cable execs walk away with hundreds of millions of dollars in payoffs.
We need an FCC that will protect the public interest — not an agency that will greenlight competition-killing mergers like this one.
