Human Rights Violations, right here in Texas

Trump's now seriously raising money.  For his donors it must be a weird feeling to write a check to a multi-billionaire who won't help his country unless we give him the whole country.  There was nothing stopping him from helping America negotiate trade deals or build walls, etc.  if he truly wanted to help his country under Bush OR Obama.

Iranian Police Confiscate 100,000 Satellite Dishes To Protect Public Morality

by jonathanturley

160px-SatelliteDishes-5375The infamous Iranian Basij militia cracked down on the use of satellite dishes by confiscating 100,000 dishes in Tehran.  Iranian prosecutors insisted that dishes expose families to UnIslamic influences and are "morally damaging."  The dishes were destroyed in a triumphant ceremony before General Mohammad Reza Naghdi, head of Iran's Basij militia.  Most people view Naghdi's crackdown as a pathetic and laughable example of religious orthodoxy that still strangles Iranian society.  However, Naghdi heralded the latest achievement of his extremist forces.

Ankara Mayor Accuses Erdogan Critic Of Using Genies To Control the Masses

by jonathanturley
250px-Robinwilliams_aladdinWe have followed the rapid destruction of the secular traditions of Turkey by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has succeeded in creating a new Islamic authoritarian regime. With the support of Islamic parties, Erdogan used the recent failed coup to complete his work in arresting his critics, forcing the resignation of thousands of secular academics, andsuspending all civil liberties in a proclaimed state of emergency. The United States helped create the tyranny rising in Turkey in its support of Erdogan as he systemically dismantled the only secular, free country in the Arab world. Recently, Erdogan threatened the United States that he wants his greatest critic, US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, delivered to him and that a failure to yield to <a href="//">his demands would be a "big mistake."  Now, one of Erdogan's extremist followers, Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek, has suggested that U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen uses genies to “enslave” people.  That's right, genies.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Takes The Fall. Clinton Rewards Her Loyalty With A New Position

by Darren Smith
By Darren Smith, Weekend Contributor
225px-Hillary_Clinton_official_Secretary_of_State_portrait_cropAs many of us expected, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz fell on the sword after leaked e-mail revealed she and other DNC officials rigged the system to hurt Candidate Bernie Sanders' campaign as a competitor to Hillary Clinton. Wasserman Schultz' self "sacrifice", if you can call it that, along with unwavering loyalty was quickly rewarded by Clinton appointing Wasserman Schultz to serve as her "Honorary" Chair of Clinton's 50 State Program to help elect Democrats throughout the United States.
Really? The very person who was implicated in a plan to rig a primary election to favor a particular candidate is now placed in a leadership role to help elect other politicians. And, adding to this, the appointment came as a personal reward for deflecting the blame away from the presidential Candidate that received the benefit of such rigging.
It is just another example of the cronyism and corruption that is becoming increasingly self-evident with the practices of Hillary Clinton.

$19 trillion suit over condensed entry on Google is tossed by 6th Circuit

A federal appeals court has rejected a $19 trillion claim by a man who alleged Google search results for his name wrongly suggested he was involved in a case involving indecency with a child.
The Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against plaintiff Colin O’Kroley on Friday.
O’Kroley sued because an entry for him labeled “Texas Advance Sheet” read “indecency with a child in Trial Court Cause N … Colin O’Kroley v Pringle.”
“Truth be told,” said the 6th Circuit opinion (PDF) by Circuit Judge Jeffrey Sutton, “O’Kroley was never involved in a case about indecency with a child.” That would be apparent to those who clicked the result, saw how the Texas Advance Sheet worked, and saw that the cases had no relation.
Sutton said Google was protected by the Communications Decency Act, which protects interactive service providers from liability for publishing third-party content. O’Kroley had claimed Google’s alterations to the third-party content had made it liable, but Sutton disagreed.
Though Google performed some automated editorial acts such as removing spaces and altering font, those fall within traditional editorial functions and Google remains eligible for immunity, the opinion said.
“In most respects,” Sutton wrote, “O’Kroley didn’t accomplish much in suing Google and the other defendants. He didn’t win. He didn’t collect a dime. And the search result about ‘indecency with a child’ remains publicly available. All is not lost, however. Since filing the case, Google users searching for ‘Colin O’Kroley’ no longer see the objectionable search result at the top of the list. Now the top hits all involve this case (there is even a Wikipedia entry on it).”
The case is O’Kroley v. Fastcase.

Wasserman Schultz Booed Off Stage By Florida Delegation . . . But Given Job By Clinton Campaign

by jonathanturley
Wasserman SchultzHillary_Clinton_Testimony_to_House_Select_Committee_on_BenghaziFormer Democratic Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was booed of the stage by the Florida delegates today as anger continued to rise over emails showing that the DNC actively undermined Bernie Sanders and sought to rig the primaries for Hillary Clinton.  Yet, in coming DNC interim chair (and Clinton supporter) Donna Brazile is calling for Wasserman Schultz to have a role at the convention as a reward for her past work.  In an equally tone deaf response, Clinton has given Wasserman Schultz a formal job with her campaign -- as opposed to the informal job that her critics have long alleged.
