Comey

Sheepish Grin  - Merriam-Webster  What an Old Person Gets when he learns his flashy friend with $300,000 worth of exotic cars, has to walk home from golf course 'cause of dead battery.

Visiting the historic Presidential Tweet Library.  On display this weekend are some rare deleted ones.

Nothing says professional like a hotmail account.

lol The HEAD of the FBI says he didn't want to be alone with Trump!! lol.  Who does?  What is it about Trump makes the insiders feel this way?  Session even offered to resign.  The swamp he may clean out may be his own appointees and anyone that doesn't put Trump before country.

I admit.  I'm not so smart after all. I thought the first war Trump would start would be with a foreign country, not with our FBI.

Fact.  Con Artists often get away with it because few are even willing to admit we are duped. That's why that Nigerian Princess is still doing business.

Learning the news is harder when you have to read three sources and figure out where the approximate middle is.

Blocked Trump Twitter followers claim First Amendment violation

Shutterstock
President Donald Trump is violating the First Amendment by blocking Twitter users who criticize and mock him, according to a letter sent to him by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.
Trump’s verified Twitter account is a designated public forum, and the First Amendment bars the government from excluding people based on their views, according to an institute press release. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have stories.
The letter asks Trump to unblock the Twitter users so they can view his tweets and comment. The letter is signed by three lawyers who represent two blocked users.
According to the Wall Street Journal, there is little case law on the issue. A Virginia federal judge tossed a lawsuit in March filed by a Facebook user who objected to Loudoun County’s deletion of his critical online comment. The commenter had tried to hijack the discussion in violation of the government’s social media policy, the judge said.
Lawsuits filed against three small Indiana cities last year settled before courts could rule.
The Wall Street Journal contacted Ken Paulson, dean of the college of mass communication at Middle Tennessee State University, for his take on the First Amendment argument. Paulson said it was unclear whether the president’s Twitter account, established before his election, was a public forum.

“I do think municipalities that establish Facebook pages and invite citizen input are in fact establishing public forums,” Paulson told the Wall Street Journal. “But I’m not sure that Donald Trump’s brief bursts of opinion are the same thing.

Report: Comey Asked Sessions Not To Leave Him Alone With Trump

by jonathanturley

donald_trump_president-elect_portrait_cropped440px-Comey-FBI-PortraitIt appears that President Donald Trump's instilled a case of autophobia (fear of being alone) in former FBI Director James Comey after his allegedly inappropriate pitch to terminate the investigation of former National Security Advisor Micheal Flynn.  According to the New York Times, Comey asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to leave him alone with Trump.  If true, the request for a type of chaperone in the Oval Office would represent a new low for the White House.  In the meantime (and equally embarrassing if true), ABC reports that Sessions actually asked Trump if he should resign due to his own deteriorating relationship with the President (who was reportedly still angry at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian investigation). Notably, the White House declined to say whether Trump still have faith in Sessions at the White House press conference.

Comey Told Sessions: Don't Leave Me Alone With Trump

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and MATT APUZZO

The F.B.I. director did not tell the attorney general why a meeting the day before with President Trump, in which the president sought to end an investigation, had unnerved him.

Spicer Declares Trump Tweets To Be « Official Statements » After Conway Chides Media For Taking Tweets So Seriously

by jonathanturley
Kellyanne_Conway_with_Trump_lettersean_spicerOne can certainly understand if the media is a tad confused.  This week, Presidential Counselor Kellyanne Conway chided media for taking President Donald Trump's tweets so seriously and denied that tweets are one of his preferred methods of communication.  Shortly thereafter White House press secretary Sean Spicer reminded media that Trump's tweets are "official statements" and thus serious articulations of policy.

Supreme Court Deliberates As Trump Becomes Witness Against Himself

by jonathanturley
donald_trump_president-elect_portrait_croppedTwitter LogoBelow is my column in the Hill Newspaper on the impact of President Donald Trump's latest tweets on the pending motion and appeal before the United States Supreme Court. My view expressed in the column is apparently shared by George Conway, the husband of Trump Adviser Kellyanne Conway. He tweeted "These tweets may make some people feel better, but they certainly won't help (the Office of the Solicitor General) get 5 votes in SCOTUS, which is what actually matters. Sad." Conway was once believed in line for a position as Assistant Attorney General. He has now decided to stay in private practice. Read more of this post

Three Out Of Four African-American Boys In California Fail To Meet Minimal Reading and Writing Standards

by jonathanturley
download-1The latest data from the California Department of Education indicates that three out of four African-American failed to meet reading and writing standards.  We have previously discussed how our schools continue to fail to educate minority students despite large budgetary allotments.  The problem is clearly money.  I have long advocated more funding but schools must also be held accountable for this appalling performance.  These kids are entering society with a huge disadvantage in seeking employment and advancement.

Lawyer becomes cloistered nun and gets help paying off student loans

Thanks to a religious fundraising program that helped pay off her school loans, lawyer Tara Clemens has fulfilled her wish of becoming a cloistered Dominican nun with the Corpus Christi Monastery in Menlo Park, California.
Clemens, who practiced law in Alaska, made her first vows in May, and is now known as Sister Marie Dominic of the Incarnate Word, Catholic San Francisco reports.
Formerly an evangelical Protestant, Clemens converted to Catholicism shortly after graduating from at Oregon’s Lewis & Clark Law School, according to a Catholic News Agency article. She became interested in the contemplative life after visiting the Corpus Christi Monastery, but owing $100,000 in student loans held her back.
A fundraising “bootcamp” by the Laboure Society—a Minnesota group that helps people who want to hold religious life positions with the Catholic church, but can’t due to school debt—assisted Sister Marie Dominic resolve her student loan issue. A video of her fundraising efforts, from 2012, can be seen here.
According to the monastery’s website, sisters spend their days praying, reading and doing manual labor. That includes cleaning, cooking and shipping altar bread used for communion.
“As a nun inside the cloister, even though I can never leave, I can embrace the whole world with that love and intercede for the whole world,” Sister Marie Dominic told Catholic San Francisco. She joined the Dominicans in 2014, after practicing law at an all-female firm that she founded, Helzer-Clemens.

A lot of these surveyors out here hire me to document the metes and bounds for boundary disputes that lawyers often use as exhibits in trials.  Wakes the jury up.  Run of the mill survey plats can be boring.

Prime Minister May Pledges To Curtail Human Rights If Necessary To Combat Extremists

by jonathanturley
Theresa_MayBritish Prime Minister Theresa May has declared that she is prepared to dispense with human rights laws if they hinder her efforts to fight terrorism.  The statement is a chilling example of how politicians are willing to take a hatchet to civil liberties and privacy in response to attacks. The more chilling fact is that many citizens will willingly part with their freedoms based on such promises of greater security.  May has already pledged to curtail free speech on the Internet to fight extremists.

Former FBI Director To Testify Before Congress

by jonathanturley

440px-Comey-FBI-PortraitFBI director James Comey is the ice man cometh.  Comey's testimony is the most anticipated in this city since the Anita Hill testimony against Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.  In a city where politics is our professional sport of choice, this is the Superbowl and World Series rolled into one.  Bar are opening early to allow people to watch in the right atmosphere.  The only thing missing is a Vegas betting line and bunting.  No doubt children got up this morning screaming "it's Comey day, it's Comey day!"
The day however is not necessarily purely festive for Comey who is likely to face some tough questions on his own conduct.  He is a seasoned operator in Washington so I expect him to do well, but the stakes are high.
